NECTFL 2016

Dear teachers,

Thank you for attending NECTFL! We hope you enjoyed your time in New York and found it instructive. We are pleased to announce that for the first time ever, an Italian teacher was nominated and selected as a NECTFL Finalist for Teacher of the Year! Michael Kowalczyk, from Bishop George Ahr High School, in Edison, New Jersey (FLENJ) was selected to receive this honor. Michael was first selected as Teacher of the Year in his home state of New Jersey, which propelled him to the national level. We are thrilled that he was nominated, and we hope that you and others will continue to nominate and encourage teachers of the Italian langauge!

We are also pleased to announce the winners of two scholarships that were chosen during the conference from Centro Studi Italiani and Accademia Italiana.

Centro Studi Italiani winner: Rina Miraglia
Rina is a teacher at Ho-Ho-Kus Public School of New Jersey, which has long been affiliated with IACE
Accademia Italiana winner: Antonina Caruso
Antonina is a coordinator for extracurricular IACE courses for children at the Saint Rocco Center (Long Island, NY) and Cold Spring Harbor Library (Glen Cove, NY).
